The Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), formerly known as the VLN (Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring), is the premier endurance racing championship held on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. With a history dating back to 1977, the NLS represents one of the most iconic and demanding racing series in the world. The championship blends high-performance motorsport with true grassroots spirit, all on a circuit known as the “Green Hell.”
Run over several races throughout the year—usually between eight to nine rounds—the NLS takes place on a combination of the Nordschleife and parts of the Grand Prix circuit, forming a layout that stretches over 24 kilometers (15 miles) per lap. Races typically last four or six hours, with the season highlight often being the 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen, one of the oldest and most prestigious events in the series.
Each race is a battle of endurance, consistency, and strategy—not just outright speed. This makes the series a proving ground for both drivers and teams, with many factory programs, privateer outfits, and emerging talents competing side-by-side.
What sets the NLS apart is its vast diversity. On any given race weekend, over 100 to 150 cars take the start across multiple classes—from GT3 monsters in the SP9 class to production-based touring cars and even experimental vehicles. This multi-class format provides intense traffic management challenges and a true test of racecraft.
Whether you’re a professional factory pilot or an ambitious privateer, the NLS is the ultimate testbed. It’s not uncommon to see drivers sharing a garage with teams backed by manufacturers like BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, and Ferrari.
The Nürburgring Nordschleife itself is as much a competitor as any car or driver. With over 170 corners, drastic elevation changes, and unpredictable Eifel weather, the track demands respect and total commitment. In this environment, the NLS fosters a unique camaraderie among racers—bonded by the challenge and thrill of racing at one of the world’s most revered circuits.
